A phased series of projects arising from a Development Plan completed in 1998, tackling an expansion in student numbers and the need for updated facilities in a 1960’s designed inner city school.
The new components are a Dining Hall, City Learning Centre and Technology Building, Modern Languages and Sixth Form Building, all arranged around a newly established Landscaped Courtyard.
City Learning Centre and Technology Building
ICT based learning centre with workshops and studios. This building is designed to facilitate wider education and community use of new technology and communications facilities.
The high visibility and transparency of the ground floor glazing treatment reveals these active spaces and signifies the learning centre’s openness and accessibility. In contrast, the first floor is structured using a section of contrasting hole punctured concrete terrazzo panels. This is to create an introspective and quieter treatment to the teaching areas, meeting rooms and staff resources on this level.
