A proposal for the design of family housing which has the potential to adapt as aspirations and needs of residents change.
Fourteen homes are grouped around a central public space which includes a children’s play space and seating area, creating a sense of place in the heart of the development. The use of brick draws inspiration from the local Victorian housing, with patterning and colour used to characterise the individuality of these dwellings.
This scheme confronts the realities of living in the city and absorbs the car within the perimeter of each dwelling, leaving the public spaces free of vehicles, promoting a calmer and pedestrian focused street scene. The road and pavement finishes and levels are unified which makes it broader and more spacious.
